Overcome your fear to reach your goals
Watching a bit of Women’s Olympic soccer this week had me thinking about that very question.
The US Women’s team’s performance over the years has been solid. They won the last 3 gold medals at the Olympics. They have performed superbly in clutch situations like shoot-outs. They have lots of synergy on the field and maintain an energized fan base.
In contrast, looking back on my own college soccer career, I can identify incredible highs, like when I broke the University’s shut out record as a Freshman goalkeeper… and LOW lows, like when I allowed a simple shot to roll right past me into the net during a conference play-off game. I still cringe at the thought;)
One of the greatest lessons I learned during my time as a goalkeeper was this: If I hesitated to ‘go for it’ when my instinct spoke…all was lost. The opposing player would score every time. Putting fear behind me, Committing, Focusing like a laser and ‘GOING for it’ led to amazing saves and VICTORY.
The highest level of performance is given by Mastery. Mastery across all dimensions of being, or MEPSS, might look like this:
M — Mental — Focus. Visualization. Refining thoughts and self-talk.
E — Emotional — Drive. Fearlessness. Persistence. ‘Digging deep’
P — Physical — Physiology. Diet, Strength, Skill building etc.
S — Spiritual — Purpose. Knowing WHY and WHAT we are investing our energies in.
S — Social— Surrounding yourself with high vibration supporters, while eliminating nay sayers, and energy vampires.
Mastery is born of repetition (good habit) and wisdom (guidance and experience).
What are you declaring yourself a master of? AND what habits can you adopt to get you there?
